ConCurrent Seattle is a one-day SFFH con that will offer supplemental, alternative programming to WorldCon on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the ACT Theatre/Union Arts Center in downtown Seattle at 700 Union Street, across from the Sheraton. ConCurrent was created as a response to WorldCon’s use of ChatGPT in the panelist vetting process. The goal is to provide quality programming that rejects the use of genAI at all levels. We firmly believe there is no place for genAI when it has been used to steal from artists and has a devastating impact upon the environment.
ConCurrent will be free for any member of the public to participate. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive and accessible space for SFFH enthusiasts and industry personnel alike. The event is not intended as a replacement for WorldCon, and it is the organizers’ hope that people will be able to attend both without judgment in the spirit of the connection and discovery that has helped the SFFH community thrive. To cover the $5,000 in costs, crowdfunding for the programming is being conducted at https://concurrentseattle.weebly.com/funding.html. Donations of all sizes are welcome.
Registration will be required in order to adhere to fire codes, and all attendees will be required to wear masks for health safety reasons. Masks will be provided for congoers who need them. Unfortunately, due to limitations of the facility, a virtual option will not be possible.
This will be a one-time event.
